Linda Mayer

Northeast Ohio artist, Linda Mayer, graduated with honors from Kent State University 2001 earning a BA in Art Education. She earned her MA in Education from Fontbonne University 2010, St. Louis, Missouri. Initially trained in both acrylic and oils, Mayer discovered her true passion the day she first dipped her brush into molten encaustic wax and she has been working with this ancient medium ever since.

From childhood, Mayer has always felt an affinity to the natural world. She discovered the richness and depth of encaustic allows her to express the wonder of earth, sea and sky. Encapsulated in the layers of beeswax and pigment are youthful memories of feeling small, yet cherished by earth and sky. Entering into a meditative dialogue Mayer works on each piece creating an oasis of peace and belonging, a respite from the frantic lives most of us live nowadays. This is how Mayer feels as she creates and she hopes that feeling resonates with others who see her work.

Mayer’s award-winning landscapes have been juried into numerous regional
and national exhibitions. Her work can be found in private collections across the
United States, as well as the permanent collection of the Museum of Encaustic Art in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Mayer has been an art educator for over 20 years, working with all ages from preschool through adult. Mayer resides in North Ridgeville and enjoys spending time with husband, Mark and their dog, Oliver.
